Espacio O Gallery participates again in the eleventh edition of the ESTE ARTE fair in José Ignacio, Uruguay.
The gallery presents Fernanda Gutiérrez's work "What is to come." The title refers to the origin of anxiety, fear of the future or uncertainty. Knitting with wool and knitting needles was the possibility that the artist found to calm her anxiety when she tried to quit smoking. She used this technique and did it with the purpose of learning something new to unlearn an old habit, a technique that also forces her to keep both hands and mind busy, since knitting was unknown to her.
The self-imposed rules were; knit 20 stitches, just like the cigarettes contained in a pack, the knitting must be stripped of any utility and be created with no purpose, it must last as long as that particular anguish or situation lasts, only then can it end. Four pieces, each one is a ball, a natural result of rolling these long and thin knits, when you go through it you can appreciate the proportions of the anguish. Three small sculptures built with the same technique, the result of the need to knit in places where it is impossible to bring the mother knitting. Two videos, the first tells her story of repressive education, which leads to generalized anxiety, and the second, stories of weaving as a community tool.
